The interesting thing about Naive Super is that the adversity is the character’s own doing. Nope, my instincts was right the first time because this novel suuuuucked!

What makes this book so good is the dry humour of the narrator.
He reads a book by Paul Davies and also engages in repetitive childish activities such as playing with wooden BRIO children’s toys and repeatedly throwing a ball against a wall. The protagonist begins the novel explaining that he has two friends, one good and one bad, and his brother, who is less friendly than him, but a good guy nonetheless. There are not many characters.
But the question remains throughout the entire book if it will be okay for him in the end. It means something when, confronted with earnestness and a complete lack of irony, it is tempting to dismiss it as lacking intellect. But finding a girlfriend helps, as does a trip overseas to NYC to visit his brother.
Perhaps the brother senses that brutally beating the protagonist at croquet was what initially made the protagonist feel like there was no purpose to life. Super by Erlend Loe. View all 5 comments.
I’ve read this book many a time before, and it has yet to fail me.
The worrying feeling that barely anything is happening in your life. I just love Loe’s style, his weird, but extremely relatable characters, his sense for little things and his lists. And do you know what that means?
All Eroend can say is that you can’t enter this novel expecting too much to happen–this isn’t a novel with huge story arcs and climaxes.
In this sense, I would not recommend this for everybody. Do you want me to repeat that?
